I was in a Village Inn recently and noticed this sign on the wall.
It reminded me of the story in Chapter 8 of Remember the Ice and Other Paradigm Shifts: Circling the Situation. The main point is simply this:
When you are dealing with an unpleasant situation (by the way, most people use the word “problem” to describe it) consider changing your perspective. Mentally draw a circle around the “situation” and move yourself around the circumference and realize that each degree you move gives you a different perspective on what you are dealing with.
Hence Circling the Situation gives you a myriad of perspectives. Thinking about the geometry; there are 360 degrees in a circle, 60 minutes to each degree and 60 seconds to every minute of each degree. When you do the math, it comes to 1,296,000 perspectives!!
It is safe to say that each of us can come up with 3 to 5 new alternatives to our “situation”.
I hope you have had a great start to 2016.
For me, I made sure to order “DESSERTS”.
Empowering Regards,
Bob
